The Prepared Childbirth Education class at Birth and Beyond is a mixed method class. Along with all of the mechanics of normal stages of labor and birth, we will address problems in labor and offer solutions both in didactic form and in practice with floor postures, birth ball work and message techniques. We believe demonstration and individual practice is paramount to a good birth class.
Additionally, we will look at interventions associated with labor. These interventions include episiotomy, induction of labor, internal monitoring, and cesarean birth.
Although our emphasis is on the least amount of intervention possible, we recognize the value of pain relief options and will explore them fully.

The Natural Childbirth class is designed to help the couple looking for a more holistic approach to childbirth.
The Natural Childbirth class will cover nutrition and prenatal exercise to help build a good foundation for the mother to stay low-risk and grow a healthy baby. We will then review the labor stages, comfort techniques, including relaxation, massage, birth ball positions and visualizations.
We will be working towards an understanding of the Natural Childbirth method and what your coach can do to help the laboring woman stay comfortable and also help the baby to get into the optimal fetal position for birth. Delivery/pushing positions and breathing will help you and your partner understand your options for birthing your baby.
The Natural Childbirth breathing techniques will be simple, easy to remember and extremely helpful in labor.
We will go over common hospital practices and what to expect from your caregiver and hospital. How to advocate for the things you'd like during this birth.
Other topics in the Natural Childbirth class will include a discussion of drugs and interventions, birth plans, breastfeeding and what to expect during the postpartum period.

BIRTHING FROM WITHIN - $375.00

Deborah Raoult

and registration at:
310.625.3739 or deborah@unfoldingbody.com
Birthing from Within is a creative and innovative approach to preparing for birth developed by midwife Pam England. It begins by asking key questions such as:
What is it that YOU need to know to give birth?
How will you cope with the intensity and unknown of birth and parenting?
How are you preparing to give and receive support in labor and beyond?
Birthing from Within's guiding principles acknowledge childbirth as a profound rite of passage, not a medical event
(even when medical care is part of the event). It sees the essence of childbirth as a self-discovery process, not
assimilating obstetric information. Here the purpose of childbirth preparation is to prepare mothers to give birth in
awareness, not to achieve a specific birth outcome. It acknowledges pain as an inevitable part of childbirth, yet looks
at what can be done to ease suffering. It accepts pregnancy and birth outcomes are influenced by a variety of factors,
but can't be controlled by planning. Birthing from Within encourages Fathers to help best as birth guardians or loving
partners, not as coaches; they also need support.
Our sessions include:
• Learning and exploring a variety of proven pain coping practices
that can serve as on-going resources throughout your life.
• Exploring cultural and personal views about parenting.
• Learning practical information about birth and early parenting.
• Being introduced to the "labor land" and what environmental
conditions support a woman's physiology to give birth.
• Meeting other couples in a small group format to share the wonder, concerns and questions that are a part of the pregnancy experience.
•....and much more!
Yoga teacher and movement educator Deborah Raoult has been teaching and working with pregnant women and new mothers since 1982.
Her practice as a Birthing from Within mentor and doula now serves women throughout Los Angeles. Deborah has devoted her work to serving
women and supporting their connection with their bodies and their spirituality. She has a particular passion for the childbearing year.
Her mission is supporting women and their families, celebrating pregnancy, birth and parenting as powerful rites of passage that can transform
our relationship to body, community and the Earth.
A Dharma practitioner since the mid-seventies, Deborah is also the mother of three grown children, two of whom were born at home.

"Outside the Box" developmental play groups for babies are distinctively described as one hour, facilitated play groups which focus on multi-sensory stimulation to enhance brain development in infants.
A large emphasis is placed on creating an environment where parents can learn how to identify and read the baby's cues, attach and bond, and participate in exercises and
activities they can continue at home to encourage learning and development. These groups were formed with the philosophy of strengthening the bond between parent and baby.
Many first-time parents are not familiar with ways to entertain, interact, and teach their young infants. The need for groups that are not only fun, but are increasing the amount of brain synapses being activated in a young brain was evident and heard. These groups are
committed to teaching parents ways to teach their babies, so that future learning is easier and more accessible.
Activities that incorporate visual and audio tracking, internal rhythm setting, thought progression, right-brain/left-brain manipulation, fine motor skills, mimicking and
overall brain stimulation, and the use of specifically chosen tools/toys are used. Babies are encouraged to use their voices, interact with other babies, and explore new concepts. Because infants learn by repetition, much of the class content stays the same for adaptation, however, new learning activities and concepts are introduced every week.
This is not your typical "bubble blowing" play group. |
