PREPARED CHILDBIRTH CLASS

$175 per couple (Group Class)

I've utilized my experience as a currently practicing labor nurse to develop a unique mixed method birth education class.  I was trained at UCLA Medical Center in normal and high risk Labor and Delivery so if you are giving birth to one baby or multiples,  are considered low risk or high risk,  I will help you navigate your way through the labor and delivery experience with the most up to date acurate information available direct from the Labor room!  I apply my skill and knoweledge as a labor nurse to my birth education instruction by using a real scenarios from my day to day labor and delivery practice.

I will help you understand community standard  of care in area teaching hospitals, private community hospitals and birth centers.  We will also discuss the midwifery model of care in a hospital setting and home birth. 

Prepared Childbirth Education/Mixed Method class
This class will convene over two three hour sessions.

Class l will cover the birth basics including the three stages of labor,  pushing positions and vaginal birth.  
Additonally we will cover:
Prolonged early labor, coping strategies and options to addressing disfunctional labor/problem solving if labor stalls or slows. 
Cesarean Indications
The immediate 2 hour post partum period including skin to skin, bonding, breastfeeding and transferring to the post partum unit. 

Class ll will cover interventions such as Induction and Aumentaion of labor, internal montioring, Cearean Section,  and writing a birth plan.
We will practice birth ball postions with movement technique,  floor work and discuss laboring at home.    Additionally, your partners will learn strategies for helping you cope with with back labor and learn a massage technique and comfort measures for managing back labor.   My class will focus on the least amount of intervention possible however I recognize the need/desire for pain medication options and will discuss those options in depth.  We will concentrate on strategies for natural onset of labor and best way to communicate your desires with birth plans that make sense.

Labor Basics Crash Course is a 3 ½ hour class covering the following:


• Signs of labor
• Stages of Labor
• Normal Vaginal Birth
• The immediate post partum period of the mother and neonate
•Options for Pain control in labor

Ample material will be provided to cover topics such as relaxation techniques, positions for laboring, problem solving and Cesarean Section.

Beginning 2012:
Enrolling in Birth Basics covers the stages of labor, pushing, birth and the immediate post partum period. This is a one-time meeting which takes place during Class 1 of my two class series. Birth basics students do not return for class 2.

CESAREAN SECTION CLASS

$90.00 per couple

Before

  • All preoperative instructions including pre admission and what to bring to the hospital.
  • Preparing to breast feed after Cesarean or choosing a formula
  • Finding a pediatrician
  • The pre-operative hours
  • Anesthesia for Cesarean birth (Spinals, Epidurals and General Anesthesia)
  • The Cesarean birth process

After the Cesarean

  • The postoperative hours in the recovery room, hospital policy and protocols.

 Your hospital stay for the next three to four days

  • Couplet care. Understanding the hospital dynamic, newborn nursery and the role of the nurses
  • Pain medication, advancing diet and ambulating
  • Taking advantage of teaching tools before you leave the hospital

Going home

  • Preparing your home for your new baby
  • Taking care of yourself and how to ask for help
  • Nutrition
  • Warning Signs and when to call your Obstetrician

Liz will bring a materials to your home including teaching DVD's, charts and models. Private classes can be scheduled for one or two sessions.

Our Program is designed to gently guide and support your family through this special transition that you may get off to the best start with your new precious baby.

The doulas we refer are loving, compassionate, experienced and knowledgeable about all aspects of postpartum, including infant care and development, breastfeeding, normal postpartum and cesarean recovery, postpartum blues & depression, facilitating bonding, and meal preparation.
